00 / Project brief
What needed to change
Island Importer sells formalwear with more choices than a typical apparel store. Customers had to understand standard and custom orders, sizing, color, delivery, and the outfit offer before they could buy. Kaku needed to explain that clearly and make complete outfits easier to shop.
- 01
Organized the store around the occasion and the person shopping
- 02
Put Outfit Savings beside qualifying products and carried it into the cart
- 03
Explained sizing, color, delivery, and custom-order differences before add to cart
- 04
Improved product discovery and campaign landing pages

A01 · Plan
Turn the store into one sales plan
The store had strong products, but the offer, merchandising, and custom-order guidance were working separately. Kaku tied them together around the occasion: help customers find the right range, answer the harder questions early, and show the value of a complete outfit.
Kaku also connected campaign and order tracking, so the team could see which routes and messages were producing sales.
- Clear routes for grooms, bridal parties, women, and boys
- Delivery and custom-order answers near the buying decision
- Campaign and paid-order tracking across the main channels

A02 · Outfit Savings
Show the savings before customers start browsing
Outfit Savings is simple: save $20 with three qualifying pieces, $40 with five, and $60 with seven. Kaku put that explanation beside the products it applies to.
Customers can understand the value of a complete outfit before filling the basket. They do not have to remember a promotion or search for the products that count.
- Three clear savings levels
- Eligible products shown beside the offer
- Collections organized around the occasion

A03 · Cart saving
Make the saving obvious in the cart
When a basket qualifies, the cart shows the unlocked saving, applies it to the total, and explains what is needed for the next level.
There is no code to remember and no guessing at checkout. Customers can see that the offer worked and decide whether the next saving is worth adding another piece.
- Current saving shown against the order
- Next level visible before checkout
- Items, quantities, and total kept in one view

A04 · Custom orders
Answer the questions that hold up a custom order
Custom formalwear needs more explanation. Before add to cart, customers can check the order type, color, sizing, delivery timing, service fees, and what changes with a custom order.
The page still leads with the product. The extra detail appears where people need it, so they do not have to hunt for an answer before committing.
What is live now.
Shopify-reported Hydrogen sales and human-session data, using equal 28-day comparisons. The result belongs to the combined sales plan, merchandising, bundle system, and surrounding store changes, not one interface feature in isolation. Paid media, traffic mix, seasonality, pricing, and assortment may also have contributed.

Blank Inspiration
Kaku built Blank’s live Shopify store for configurable canvas, then produced a separate exhibition-platform design for artists, originals, and print drops. The store is live. The exhibition design remains unapproved and has not been developed.
